Internet enabled scientific communication to become faster and easier also facilitating a rapid increase in the amount of not peer-reviewed medical and biologic information available to all. As a consequence, we believe that the role of "JOP. Journal of the Pancreas", as a free-standing journal that guarantees the rapid dissemination of peer-reviewed scientific knowledge, is more important than ever.
